Headed to the Farm! Update #1

Hi All, I started Primal Wellness with the idea that it would be all about fitness and nutrition (my passion). I chose “Primal” because if you look the word up in the dictionary it’s meaning is “basic, fundamental, intrinsic, essential, vital, etc…” My beliefs on health and wellness mirror this definition. I’m not a fan of fads, pill or potions. I believe in a clean, natural diet (with room for embellishments, come on, if you know me you know I enjoy my wine!) and moderate but consistent physical activity. But recently, as we’re making the shift from suburbia to country, I’ve decided to document what I think will be one hell of a journey. We’re looking to live a more self sustaining lifestyle.  Chickens? Goats? Pigs? We’ll see!

So, all that being said, we’ve done so much over the past few weeks and are well on our way to making our transition! Just to catch you up, here are some things we’ve accomplished in the past 3 weeks:

  1. Our house is ready to go on the market! We met with a realtor 2 weeks ago and she showed us some comparable properties in our neighborhood. We were happy with what we saw! Harry asked for 2 weeks to finish up some projects before we listed and he worked like a mad man to get everything done. We sign the contract tomorrow.
  2. We met with a builder! We are so excited to be building a modular home. We’ve looked into every type of home and modular has stood out since day one. We’re going with a “green” builder (so important to me and Harry) who will basically build any floor plan we want. We’re starting to become a little more educated on the process and we couldn’t be happier!
  3. We’ve found our dream lot, 14.3 acres! We’ve had our eyes on this beauty for a while now and are happy that it’s still on the market. This old pasture is about a football field wide and almost 5 football fields deep. We are praying it doesn’t sell before we’re ready.

    Our future farm???
  4. Financing is being secured. Apparently there are only a few “new construction loan” friendly banks/credit unions in our area, so we’ve started the process of figuring out what needs to be done so as soon as we close on our home, we’ll be set to place our order with our home builder.

So, including all of that, we’ve had Father’s Day, my husband’s birthday and my son’s high school graduation. We’ve taken in our daughter’s cat as she tours with a professional A Capella group on Cape Cod for the summer and we’re also planning what will be our last pool party at our current home (Ian’s graduation party) in a few weeks. To top it off,  we’re getting ready for vacation in August! AND, we still have the task of finding a place to live for 3 or 4 months while our house is being built.

Life is busy, but exciting. There is so much more to come…

Be healthy, be well
