What is a Health Coach, and do you need one?

Hi everyone! I hope you are all doing wonderful. I know I am! As many of you know, I work for the American Heart Association as a fundraiser. 9 years ago I started my career and have learned so much about heart health. Did you know that 80% of heart disease is preventable? It has become my mission to encourage, educate and empower men and women to do the things they need to do in order for them to NOT become a statistic.

2 years ago I completed a yearlong self-guided and in person course which certified me as a Certified Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach, Group Trainer, Lifestyle Consultant and Fitness Assessment. All of these bundled together, certify me as a Wellness Coach. I wanted to shed some light on what this means and how I’ve been helping others.

In addition to the fitness classes I teach, I work one on one with individuals looking to get healthy.  This looks a little different than the work of a personal trainer. We all know pretty much (or at least have a good idea of) what we should do if we want to get healthy. But, we sometimes struggle with getting started, staying motivated and holding ourselves accountable. That’s where I come in. I offer a coaching program in 6 week intervals. Initially we meet in person or virtually to get a baseline of where you are physically so we can track progress. In addition to wellness education, I work with my clients to set weekly goals in the area of fitness, nutrition and lifestyle. We have scheduled check in times to review goals, discuss any obstacles and set ourselves up for the following week. Coaching should not take a cookie cutter approach. It should be individualized according to the wants and needs of the client. At the end of 6 weeks we do another physical assessment so we know how far we’ve come.

So, there you have it. If you want to find out more about my coaching program, send me an email, give me a call or shoot me a text.

Lastly, look me up on Snapchat, you can find me at PrimalWellness…or, here’s my code!
