What’s a Year? I Prefer Moments.

Hi Friends!

Happy New Year!  I know, I know…it’s been a while. But, if you follow me on social media you can see we’ve been up to a lot. It’s just such an easier platform for me. Recently I’ve been a bit obsessed with Instagram stories. It’s so fun to both watch others and create my own. When I was a little girl I sometimes imagined that TV cameras were following me around and I was putting on a bit of a reality show. (And this was WAY before reality shows existed!) So, Insta has become a tiny version of a childhood fantasy! HAHA!n – It’s ok, you can judge me.

But enough about that, I thought it would be appropriate to write a quick year-end post since it seems to be the trend this week. But like Last Year’s Post, I didn’t really want to make this a “year in review” or a “looking forward to 2019” post. You’ll see enough of those.

You’ll see those that reflect on all of the great things that happened. Graduations. New jobs. Engagements. Weddings. Babies. Puppies. New homes. New beginnings. Vacations. Those that overcame hardships. Those that got fit. Those that left a bad situation and took control of their lives. I love, love, love seeing all of the good that is happening for people. And yes, I’ll be watching out for all of those wonderful stories!

And then there are those that are anxiously awaiting the calendar to turn – as if 01/01/2019 will magically bring them a new beginning or new found hope. You’ll see: “See you later 2018”, or “2019 is My Year”, maybe, “New Year, New Me”, not to mention all of those resolutions. But please don’t get me wrong, I think if putting up a new calendar helps you set and achieve happiness then I’m all for it. Go get ’em friend!

So what’s the scoop?

As for most of us, 365 days is a combination of both good and bad. Sometimes REALLY GOOD and sometimes REALLY BAD! And for me, happiness, success, sadness, worry, fear, (INSERT ANY EMOTION) are not measured in a year’s time. Not even seasons, months, weeks or days. I try and measure in moments. I don’t want to reflect on a period of time and call it good or bad – there can be lots of good and bad in any given day. I also don’t want to have to wait to turn a page on a calendar or even wait to begin a new day to set a goal or try something new.

So what I suggest is to look for those moments. Enjoy them while they are happening. Feel the good feels! Hold them close to your heart so when you do reflect on a period of time, even if it’s not the best, you’ll have some “moments” to carry you through. Don’t wait to make a change if change is what you want. Don’t wait to share an idea, reach out to a friend or do what makes you happy.

And finally, this is all not to say that I don’t believe in reflecting and goal setting. (Check out my new planner!)

Best Year Ever

I just don’t think you need a new year to make all that happen…and again, I don’t think good and/or bad should be measured in years.

Welcome

From our little neck of the woods to yours. May you enjoy many, many moments. Today and always!

Love,
The Cohns
